Margaret MacGregor DA

I have been drawing since I could first hold a pencil and my dedication to art has continued ever since working with many mediums but prefer oil. I have done a series of many paintings of the River Forth, from sunrise to sunset, of views from the sandbanks at low tide on the stretch of the river from Alloa to Kincardine.

From 1973 up to present day have won 13 awards for painting.

From 1982 – have exhibited in many galleries & venues in Central Scotland and have numerous paintings hanging in private collections around the world.

In 1988 – obtained a DA in art from London Art College.
In 1999 – staged my first ‘solo’ exhibition in the Cowane Gallery, Stirling.
In 2008 – won a commission from the construction company Morgan VINCI to do a painting of the newly built Clackmannanshire Bridge and this painting entitled ‘’Sunrise over Clackmannanshire Bridge’’ was presented to The Rt Hon. Alex Salmond MP MSP, First Minister for Scotland, when he conducted the official opening of the bridge on 19th November 2008.  It is now hanging in St Andrew’s House in Edinburgh as part of the Scottish Government’s official art collection.

In 2019 – from 24th August to 4th October staged my second ‘solo’ exhibition in “The Gallery” at G R McFarlane, Watchmaker, Jeweller & Art Gallery, 41 Mill Street, Alloa with over 250 paintings on display.

For the first 20 years of my life, along with my parents and older sister, I lived on a 100 acre island farm on the River Forth. Therefore, the majority of my work comprises of traditional country scenes, farm animals and paintings of the River Forth but I also enjoy the challenge & fun of painting any subject in a wide variety of styles.

In 1980 – graduated as a Staff Nurse but had to retire early in my career after sustaining a severe back injury and now have difficulty holding my brushes especially to do fine details.

From 1991 – have been a member of the Central Arts committee as Exhibitions Organiser and also as Chairman since 2002.
