Born in Bo’ness in 1929, I was introduced to art at an early age as my Dad, Tom Pettigrew was an artist who painted in watercolour and pen and ink. I began painting as a hobby when my children were small and was a member of Falkirk Art Club who exhibited annually. That first year, I was delighted to be awarded 1st prize for my painting ‘The Cornfield’. This began my love of painting which has been ongoing for the last 55 years.
I started off painting in oils and have used pastels but my main media is acrylic with subject interests in flowers, still life and landscape. My paintings have been in many exhibitions across Forth Valley over the years and at 95 years of age, I still enjoy painting and my love of art has never diminished.
